Master's degree result - 16th November 2012

After a long wait over the Summer waiting for my research dissertation to be marked, the results finally landed on the doormat this week. I was very surprised and delighted to see the dissertation achieved an A grade and I will now graduate a year ahead of schedule with an MSc in Dental Implantology with merit. It's great that all the hard work at Bristol University over the past 3 years has paid off and even more satisfying to be able to use those skills in our ever increasing Implantology referral practices.

North Hamphire Medical and Dental Golf Society - 16th November 2012

Basingstoke and district medics met up for a great days golf at North Hants Golf Club in Fleet last week and the kind weather meant not too many balls were lost. A great mornings golf was had in the company of Tadley GP David Newman and Consultant Neurologist Sarah Carder, before joining the others for a fine lunch and presentation in the iconic new clubhouse. By some mathematical fluke I managed to sneak off with the Brynmor Williams Trophy. The Committee has apparently decided that I will play off the same handicap as Rory McIlroy for future meetings!

Mouth Cancer Awareness Month November 2012 - 26th October 2012

To mark Mouth Cancer Awareness month, we will be holding a free drop in clinic between 9-12am on Thursday 8th November at Westleigh Dental. The screening and advice clinic is open to all and you do not need to be registered at the practice.

Mouth cancer claims the lives of 2000 people in the UK every year- that's more than cervical and testicular cancer combined.

Already this year we have detected two cases of oral cancer in our patients at their routine dental check-ups. Both patients were unaware of the condition, which is typical of mouth cancer as two thirds of all oral cancers are only detected in the last stage of the disease, dramatically reducing the chances of survival. If you would like more information on mouth cancer, please visit the British dental Health Foundations website at www.dentalhealth.org

Improvements to Domiciliary Dental Care at Hampshire Hospitals - 11th October 2012

We have been having a series of productive discussions with managers at Hampshire Hospitals NHS trust about some ideas for improving patient dental care at their three hospitals. As preferred providers of domiciliary dental care to the trust we were uniquely positioned to identify areas where we felt the service could be improved. The response from management was very positive and we look forward to implementing these improvements across the three trust run hospitals at Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover.

We will also be expanding our domiciliary dental service to patient's own homes over the next 12 months, so if you have a housebound friend or family member that would benefit from seeing a dentist, please use the contact form on the website to get in touch for more information.

Charity walk - 11th October 2012

All the family enjoyed a very enjoyable walk around Winchester on Sunday 16th September and raised money for two charities for the homeless. The weather was kind to us and it was great to see parts of the historic city that we never knew existed. 5 year old Hermione was very proud to be amongst the first five finishers (way ahead of her ailing Dad!) and is busy recruiting friends to join her on her next year's walk.
